VCFamilia Issue - Issue #30
It's the second week of Hispanic Heritage Month and we've got a lot more in store for our familia and friends.
🇵🇷 Matching Donations for Puerto Rico
Our hermanos in Puerto Rico are in need of our support after the devastating hurricane, Fiona. Many people are under water and without electricity and food. VCFamilia will match donations up to $10k to support the people of Puerto Rico.
Use this form to submit your donation and we will match dollar for dollar up to $10k. We will be equally dividing our matching donation to the following organizations:
Hispanic Heritage Month Pitch Competition
VCFamilia is bringing you our second annual Latinx pitch competition with an even bigger prize -- $50k of equity free cash. If you're a Latinx founder or if you know a stellar Latinx founder, direct them here.
The deadline is September 26, so make sure that you enter for your chance to pitch a judge of A List VCs in front of our Familia and community. The pitch competition will take place on October 6. Apply here and RSVP to attend.
Alejandra Vergara's Thesis on LATAM
VCFamilia member, Alejandra Vergara, is bullish on LATAM founders. In her article, she explores why the time is now and what specific industries or themes will be growing and thriving in the coming years. Check out her medium article below.

Diverse Investment Teams Deliver Higher IRR
Latinos make up 3% of investment partners according to a 2018 survey from the NCVA and Deloitte. This white paper from WestRiver Group explores how the gender and race of founders and investors impact fund performance. Spoiler alert: diverse teams drive better results.
A steady stream of evidence has emerged since 2013 indicating that when startup teams and venture investing teams embrace differences of gender, race, ethnicity, educational background, and/or professional experience, these heterogeneous teams are correlated with better financial outcomes than homogeneous teams.

We'd love to feature content and events of our members and partners. Email us at [email protected] and we can include it in our next newsletter.
Partner Highlight: Comcast
None of the work that we do at VCFamilia would be possible without the support of our sponsors. This week, we highlight our GOLD SPONSOR for Hispanic Heritage Month, Comcast. Thier support of Latinx familia in venture is making all the events this month possible.
MIL GRACIAS!
