[VCFamilia] Issue #13 - LatAm Venture shifts, Chicago, NY, Miami meetups and 15 new VC Jobs

Happy August familia! We are excited to see new members as we break 200+ members, meaning we have more Latinx venture investors than anyone could've predicted when we started 7 months ago. Thank you for being along for the journey and we have more coming up - feel free to spread the word about this newsletter and add more folks to la familia.

If you are a VC who identifies as Latinx and would like to join our VCF slack, please fill out this form. Feel free to join the Linkedin group that includes allies + follow us on Twitter (thank you for 1,600!).

Wepa! Community Wins:

Crypto Shift: Congrats to VCF Member Bea for joining Pantera Capital, one of the largest crypto funds and powerhouse in the next generation of projects!

Good to Know:

Techcrunch on LatAm funding: According to CB Insights data, startups in the region have already raised $9.3 billion in 2021’s first six months from 414 deals. The same data set indicates that in all of 2020, startups in the region raised $5.3 billion across 526 deals. Read more below on the combination of opportunity and talent below + here's Atlantico's Report on the Digital Transformation happening in LatAm now (docsend)

The union of talent and money is what startup markets need to thrive. But there are other reasons why LatAm startups are often in the news: strong digital penetration and quick e-commerce growth.

NASDAQ takes a stand: Under the proposal, Nasdaq-listed companies would need to meet certain minimum targets for the gender and ethnic diversity of their boards or explain in writing why they aren’t doing so. Nasdaq found in a review conducted before submitting its plan late last year that more than three-quarters of its listed companies wouldn’t have met its proposed requirements. It's the first exchange to take action for transparency and accountability at the board level.

Nasdaq’s push for greater diversity in corporate boards cleared a key hurdle, as regulators approved the exchange operator’s proposal to include gender and race in its listing rules.
