What does a $120k hire actually cost you?
A $120K salary might look straightforward on paper. But once you factor in employer taxes, statutory benefits, payroll, and country-specific employment costs, the number can look pretty different.
And those costs can vary significantly depending on where your employee is based. Before you build your hiring budget, or make an offer, it helps to know the full picture.
Oyster’s Global Hiring Cost Calculator lets you compare employment costs across 120 countries and estimate what a hire could really cost your business.

Founder to Watch - Kateri Gutierrez 🇲🇽

Kateri Gutierrez grew up in Lynwood, California, as a first-generation student, Kateri always pictured building a business that could strengthen her community. After UC Berkeley, she returned home and co-founded Collective Avenue Coffee, a worker-owned cooperative that brought economic opportunity and a place to connect to her neighborhood. Now, after an MBA and nearly four years at Deloitte, she's becoming a tech founder for the first time.
Her new company, Happin, is a social coordination app that privately lets you know when you'll overlap with friends at conferences, concerts, on trips, or wherever life takes you. No broadcasting, no group-chat chaos, just a quiet nudge that turns accidental proximity into real connection. Kateri is bringing the same community-first approach to tech, along with one lesson learned: you don't have to be technical to build a tech company, but you do need to know when to bring in the technical experts.
💬 Community Ask: Kateri is looking to connect with early users, community builders, and people working in social, consumer, and travel tech who want to rethink how we stay connected as our lives get busier and more mobile. Join here: https://lnkd.in/gnS9tz_m
If you’re building on AI, you know how fast token spend can get messy: usage spikes, bills show up late, and no one’s totally sure which model, team, or workflow drove the cost. Ramp gives founders real-time visibility into AI spend across vendors, models, teams, and individuals — plus anomaly alerts before a surprise bill hits.
Founders are using it to:
Catch runaway token spend before it eats runway
Compare model costs and switch to cheaper options when performance doesn’t justify the price
Show investors and see yourselves how efficiently the team is using AI to drive output
