Tiq Chapa: L’Attitude’s Newest Addition

Eutiquio "Tiq" Chapa is now a Senior Associate at L'Attitude Ventures. They invest $1M-$2M checks into Latine led startups at the seed stage. Prior to L'Attitude VC, he was at Rocketship VC, a global fund focused on seed and Series A, and also spent time at Ulu Ventures. Tiq has extensive experience supporting founders and helped launch the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative, where he helped build a national network of diverse founders, investors, and ecosystem builders. He has also conducted research regarding diverse entrepreneurs, institutional investors, and GP's.

Juliette Bolea Joins Sound Ventures

Juliette has just made the move to Sound Ventures as an investor, focusing on early-stage opportunities across various industries. Sound is an LA-based VC fund led by the incredible Ashton Kutcher, Effie Epstein, and Guy Oseary and focuses on early and mid-stage private technology platforms. For the past 10+ years, the team has been investing in leading companies such as Airbnb, Uber, Spotify, Square, OpenAI, GitLab, 1Password, and many others.

Juliette graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration with a double minor in International Relations and Law and Society and previously worked on Activant Capital’s Investment Team.

Elias Davis Now Partner at MS&AD

Elias, a VCF Board Member, is the newest Partner at MS&AD Ventures, the CVC for MS&AD Insurance Group, the 5th largest insurance company in the world. With $300M AUM, MS&AD Ventures invests across insurtech/fintech, digital health, and enterprise SaaS.

Prior to MS&AD Ventures, Elias was a Partner at Kli Capital where he led their investment activity for 4+ years across US, Israel and Emerging Markets (LatAm, Africa and India) for the firm. He brings technical and operating experience to the table to support the MS&AD Ventures portfolio, from his time as a founder, early-stage company operator, and product leader at Google.

Elias was born and raised between Miami, Florida, and Lima, Peru- his operating experience brings a global and holistic view to investing. Elias holds a Bachelor's in Computer Science from the University of Rochester where he graduated Cum Laude.

3rd Annual Pitch Competition

Deadline: September 24th, 2023

We are bringing some of the best VCs in the industry to judge the final round of pitches of top Latino startups. We will select 8 finalists before the final round of the pitch competition on October 12th.

Requirements to enter:

• Minimum of one Latine founder

• The company’s founder stock must be >33% owned by Latine founders

• Maximum $2.5M in total capital raised to date; and

• The company must be incorporated in the U.S.

Warrior Summit 2023

The Warrior Summit brings together founders and investors for a full day of authentic connections and immersive conversations, complete with the sights, sounds, and experiences that Keep Austin Weird.

• When: October 31st, 2023

• Where: Oracle Headquarters- Austin, TX

The VCF Alzar Program

VCFamilia’s Alzar Program offers $25k grants to eight Latine emerging fund managers for operational capital needed to launch a fund. The grants can be used for hiring, legal, admin, operational software, or any other operating items needed to get a fund off the ground.

The program is designed to do two things:

1. Alleviate financial burden by reducing the operational costs associated with fund management; and

2. Help jumpstart Latine GPs across industries, geographies, and theses, enabling them to be assessed based on their investment talent and experience rather than their personal wealth

Itzel Moncada: VC Doctorate

This Fall, our VCF member, Itzel Moncada, has begun her Doctor in Business Administration program at Pepperdine Graziadio Business School! Her doctoral research will be dedicated to studying venture capital, with a particular focus on understanding the determinants of venture capital returns in the context of diverse founders and funders.

Itzel is also an investor with Reinventure Capital, where she invests exclusively in US-based companies led and controlled by BIPOC and/or female founders, at breakeven and poised to grow profitably. She remains an engaged and active member of the VC community, participating in organizations such as VCFamilia, SomosVC, Latitud, and Angeles Investors.

As a Latina in venture capital, Itzel is committed to leveraging her unique perspective as both an investor and a researcher. Her overarching goal is to bridge the gap between academia and venture capital, offering invaluable insights into the workings of the venture capital ecosystem.
